Biomedical Engineer
Interested candidates will;
Support patient diagnosing and treatment by installing, testing, calibrating, and repairing biomedical equipment; training users; and maintaining safe operations. Coordinating Biomedical equipment service providers to periodically do equipment maintenance and servicing.
Responsible for the management, leadership and training of Biomedical Technicians and other staff in general activities in the provision of the Biomedical service within the legislative requirements and professional guidelines
Key Result Areas
The post holder is required to:-
• Work with service providers and hired workers to install new equipment by establishing, adjusting, calibrating and testing performance; maintain, or repair medical equipment. Supervise and approve new equipment installation by third parties according to medical specifications.
• Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules, conducting tests, troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions;
• Call for special equipment service, evaluate service contracts and maintain equipment inventories;
• Supervision of the biomedical technicians.
• Direct biomedical equipment operations by providing equipment operation demonstrations, instructing / training other healthcare staff in use and care of equipment and answering questions;
• Evaluate proposals for new equipment;
• Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipt, in collaboration with procurement department;
• Prepare biomedical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends;
• Manage the inventory, make requests, and verify deliveries of medical equipment, testing equipment, accessories and other related supplies.
• Manage the medical equipment work requests, receiving, prioritizing, and facilitating their completion.
• Always keep a list of all outstanding requests and update the same regularly upon completion.
• Provide on call services. Do a monthly staff schedule to provide 24 hour biomedical coverage of the hospital.
• Oversee the tools and equipment assigned to the maintenance department.
• Maintain an inventory of biomed and electrical hand and powered tools, and testing equipment.
• Maintain an up-to-date register of all medical equipment and systems in the hospital.
• Supports the purchasing of maintenance supplies and giving proper accountability according to set procedures.
• Services various equipment and apparatus, such as patient monitors, electrocardiographs, blood-gas analyzers, x-ray units, defibrillators, electrosurgical units, anesthesia apparatus, pacemakers, blood-pressure transducers, spirometers, sterilizers, diathermy equipment, patient-care computers, and other related technical equipment.
• Safety-test medical equipment and health-care facility’s structural environment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards.
• Consults with staff to ascertain that equipment functions properly and safely.
• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Knowledge/Qualifications and Experience
• A Degree in Electronics/Biomedical Technology or equivalent qualifications
• At least 05 years of experience in a similar role and 02 years in a supervisory role, preferably in a hospital environment
• Managing and coordinating a team of technicians and service providers as well as familiarity with procurement processes and experience with inventory management and maintenance
• Knowledge of medical equipment trouble shooting
